How Braces Work and the Process

Braces are a proven and effective solution for enhancing your smile and fixing bite issues. They can be used by children, teens, and adults to straighten teeth and improve overall dental health. The treatment involves bonding brackets to your teeth and connecting them with a wire, which gently applies pressure to gradually shift your teeth into place. As the teeth move, the wire is adjusted periodically to keep the process on track toward your final results.

The journey begins with a free consultation with Dr. Daly, where you’ll discuss your treatment options in detail. During this visit, she will create a customized plan based on your unique needs, ensuring both functional and aesthetic goals are met. The process of placing your braces is quick and straightforward, usually taking about an hour. Afterward, you’ll visit our office approximately every 6 weeks adjustments to monitor your progress.

The length of treatment varies depending on the severity of your dental concerns and how much movement is required. On average, braces treatment takes anywhere from 6 to 30 months, and Dr. Daly will provide a more specific timeline during your consultation.

Who Can Benefit from Braces?

Braces are suitable for individuals of all ages. Whether your child is starting early orthodontic treatment, your teen is ready for their first round of braces, or you’re an adult seeking to improve your smile, braces are a versatile option. In some cases, braces may be a more effective solution than Invisalign, especially for certain types of tooth movement. For those who prefer a more discreet appearance, clear braces are also available as an option.

Deciding Between Clear and Metal Braces

When choosing between clear braces and metal braces, there are a few key differences to consider, though both types will give you a beautiful, straight smile in the end.

Clear Ceramic Braces

Clear braces are a more subtle option, as they are made from a transparent material that blends with the natural color of your teeth. They’re ideal for anyone who wants to keep their treatment discreet.

Additionally, clear braces won’t stain from everyday foods like coffee or tomato sauce, and any slight discoloration can easily be brushed away. You also have the option of choosing clear ties for a seamless look or adding some fun color with rubber bands.

Although ceramic braces are less noticeable, they require more attention to oral hygiene because they are larger and more fragile than metal braces. Due to these characteristics, ceramic braces are typically used more on the upper front teeth than on the lower teeth.

Iconix (Gold) Braces

At Daly Orthodontics, we are excited to offer Iconix Braces; a modern and discreet alternative to traditional metal braces, offering a more aesthetic solution without sacrificing effectiveness.

The champagne-colored finish offers an elegant, subtle look that complements teeth, providing a refined yet eye-catching aesthetic.

The durability of stainless steel ensures a strong, reliable bracket that remains intact and effective throughout the treatment. The low-profile, contoured design improves patient comfort and minimizes bite interferences.

No matter which option you choose, Dr. Daly and her Burlington team will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that fits your lifestyle and helps you achieve the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.
